About the Journal
Founded in 2013, the Journal of Teacher Action Research (ISSN: 2332-2233) is a peer-reviewed online journal indexed with EBSCO that seeks practical research that can be implemented in Pre-Kindergarten through Post-Secondary classrooms. The primary function of this journal is to provide classroom teachers and researchers a means for sharing classroom practices.
The journal accepts articles that describe classroom practice that positively impacts student learning. Please review the author guidelines for more details.
JTAR is a totally volunteer-run independent journal. As an independent journal, we do not receive financial assistance from any entity, but rather operate totally through volunteer efforts of the editorial team and reviewers. As such and due to our regular jobs, we sometimes are unable to keep up with the demands of the journal and may get behind with author contacts, reviews and decisions. We offer apologies in advance if the process takes longer than communicated.
Co-Editors
Dr. Gilbert (Gil) Naizer is a Professor in the Curriculum & Instruction Department at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He has over twenty years experience in higher education specializing in teacher education and science teacher education. Dr. Naizer received his Ph. D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Texas A&M University in 1993.
Dr. April Sanders is currently an assistant professor in the Education Department at Spring Hill College. Dr. Sanders was a former English teacher and language arts curriculum specialist and completed a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a minor specialization in language and literacy studies in May 2013. While at the University of North Texas, Dr. Sanders was a teaching fellow and taught courses for pre-service teachers focusing on content-area literacy and language arts methods for the classroom. Research interests include the use of the New Literacies in the K-12 classroom and how pre-service teachers are prepared to teach in a modern classroom with the New Literacies.
Associate Editors
Dr. Laura Isbell joined the Department Curriculum and Instruction at Texas A&M University-Commerce in the fall of 2013.Dr. Isbell received her Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a Minor in Special Education from the University of North Texas. Her current interests are Curriculum development, teachers’ pre-service and in-service professional development, response to intervention by students, special education curriculum and concerns.
Dr. Tami Morton is an Assistant Professor at Texas A & M University-Commerce. Her interests include teacher education, reading, and children’s and adolescent literature.
Susan Williams joined the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in fall of 2010. She is a former elementary teacher and testing coordinator. She is currently ABD and writing her dissertation which focuses on first year teachers. She is the Director of the Partnership between Texas A&M University Commerce and Mesquite ISD.
Production Editor and Webmaster
Dr. Chase Young is an associate professor in the Department of Language, Literacy and Special Populations at Sam Houston State University. He has taught in the primary grades and served as a literacy coach in the public school system. Dr. Young received his Ph.D. in Reading Education from the University of North Texas. He was the co-founder and former editor of JTAR.
